The Power of Setting Goals: The secret to a successful life and business

GOAL: A Simple Definition

the end toward which effort is directed

Merriam-Webster Dictionary

“SMAC”: The Framework of Effective Goals

SMAC is an acronym that stands for the four fundamental elements of an effective goal.

Source: The Power of Setting Goals

S – Specific

Good goals are SPECIFIC – they are clearly defined. You cannot intentionally guide any process that lacks a “definition of done”. If you do not clearly define where the finish line is, how will you ever know when you have completed the goal you set?

M – Measurable

Good goals are MEASURABLE – they can be easily quantified. You should be able to measure the required progress needed for you to complete the goal. If your goal is not measurable, the amount of necessary time for completion will always be OVERESTIMATED.

A – Achievable

Good goals are ACHIEVABLE – they exist within the realm of possibility. If you create goals that are impossible to achieve, you risk becoming emotionally defeated by the insurmountable road ahead. It is critical to have progressional goals that allow for metered successes. This psychological “reward” of success with boost confidence over time.

C – Challenging

Good goals are CHALLENGING – they stretch you to acquire skills and knowledge that you do not already possess. Never set a goal that doesn’t require you to learn or experience something new. Challenging goals drive progress and growth on a level that exists outside of the goal itself.

OBJECTIVES: Making Your Goals Happen

Objectives define “HOW” you will reach an intended goal. Think of objectives as being the “goal within the goal”. They can be arranged as milestones to signify progress along the journey to a challenging goal. By establishing CLEAR objectives, you dramatically increase the likelihood of successfully reaching your goal.

Example of Defining Objectives

“I will close $100K in sales this quarter.”

If you set a goal to close a specific dollar-value in sales during the next quarter (for our example that is $100K), the final destination of that goal is $100,000. You can set your Objectives along the way at some realistic milestones (so $25K, $50K, $75k, and then $100K).

You now can chop up the time increment into four smaller “goals” that have deadlines of one month (which combine to give you the quarter of the year). Now your number of $100K is more digestible and has clear deadlines associated with it.

APPLICATION: Get Personal With Your Goals

Having goals means living INTENTIONALLY. Nobody in history has ever become great or accomplished great things on accident. Ensure your success by putting your goals on a calendar RIGHT NOW, assess your progress towards your goals DAILY and don’t be afraid to make adjustments as needed.

Goals aren’t just for work. Set goals for your personal life as well!

  • Physical fitness
  • Relationships with family and friends
  • Spirituality
  • Personal growth and knowledge acquisition
  • Finances

What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.

THE POWER OF SETTING GOALS

Multidimensional open source intelligence

“You don’t need to know everything. You just need to know everyone who knows something.”

Screenshot of live target map from DataDB

Since the initial project launch 2 months ago, our Open Source Intelligence Database has grown to include 867 data sources and 3960 data feeds. Additionally, we added several new metrics to our core target data points. These new metrics encompass everything from graphics, social media, and contact information, to industry classifications, business relationships, and live data feeds.

Our approach to collecting open-source intelligence for this project begins at the point of monetary origin (central banks) and progresses downward through the standard distribution channels of national governments around the world. We passed our first milestone when we completed entering all central banks and monetary authorities into our database on January 30th. Our team was excited to formally cross the second major milestone in this project last evening. Our database now contains every national government in the world.

Highest density endpoint tags (DataDB)

While many comprehensive information resources exist (Wikipedia, Crunchbase, CityData, etc.), few of them provide access to multidimensional analysis features. Such features enable the user to analyze the data without being confined to a strictly linear or rigid category-based approach. As a result, our multidimensional and open-source approach to economic, political, and business data maximizes the number of actionable insights that can be derived from such complex data.

DataDB is entirely free and open-source. We welcome you to utilize this ongoing project of ours to further your research and business activities. If you are researching a specific industry or topic that we have not covered in our database, or if you have internal datasets that you need to be analyzed, please reach out to us and our team will be happy to assist you.

Chart Watch: High quality, full screen crypto and finance charts with no login needed

Most people who own cryptocurrency have placed a trade on a cryptocurrency exchange at some point in time – especially those who made a purchase prior to the rise of platforms like Coinbase. Since the early days of cryptocurrency, many on-ramping services have been established and many people who now own Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies have never had the need to open an account on a cryptocurrency exchange. Despite the convenience of the many on-ramping services available, the need to keep an eye on the current prices of cryptocurrency with a high quality chart still exists and often remains unmet.

Several price tracking apps and sites are available for individuals who wish to follow the price action of cryptocurrency and other financial assets. These platforms, however, often require an account or, at the very least, require users to navigate a highly sophisticated interface to find the appropriate chart for what they wish to view.

We recognized these complications and decided to built a tool to help simplify the situation.

https://chart.watch/

Chart Watch is a tool that provides high quality, high visibility cryptocurrency charts without the need to create an account or provide any information.

https://chart.watch/

Chart Watch was built using the charting engine provided by TradingView and automatically defaults to full screen mode upon entry. It gets straight down to business. It removes the hassle from getting the financial price information you want. Better yet, it’s completely free (and always will be).

A total of 26 different cryptocurrency exchanges are currently supported and can be easily toggled between using the embedded interface. In addition to cryptocurrency, the major exchanges for traditional stocks, futures, and forex are also available.

Have suggestions on how we can make this tool better? Let us know in the comments below!

Forgot your password? You shouldn’t be able to memorize it in the first place.

We have all experienced the frustration that comes from being told that we entered the wrong password. The problem is, a password that can be memorized is a password that can be hacked.

When 3.3 million passwords were analyzed to determine the most common ones in 2014, 0.6 percent were 123456. And using the top 10 passwords, a hacker could, on average, guess 16 out of 1,000 passwords.

50 Most Used Passwords
Source: WordPress, Unmasked

Below are some examples of real VIP passwords that were cracked and leaked onto the internet along with how long (on average) it would take to crack the password.

Since 2014, people have become more security-aware. Better password standards have also been enforced by many companies that require users to create passwords that are a minimum of 8 characters, include upper and lower case letters, and use at least one number and special character; however, the problem of password memorization still remains.

There are two common methods of password cracking that are used: Brute Force Attacks and Dictionary Attacks

Brute Force Attack: An attempt to gain access to an account by submitting all possible combinations of letters (upper and lowercase), numbers, and symbols in a recursive manner.

  • Brute force attacks are often powered by graphics processing units (GPU’s) which, lately, have become a hot commodity due to the dawn of VR/AR and bitcoin mining.
  • The legendary (and free) Hashcat password-cracking suite can make 300,000 guesses per second (with common hardware)
  • Another popular free (and very powerful) password cracking tool is Cryptohaze
  • If you have an Nvidia GPU and want to play around with hacking some things you can download and install it using the install script that our team wrote: http://bit.ly/install-cryptohaze

Dictionary Password Attack: Large lists of known-passwords are attempted against an account.

  • When major cybersecurity breaches occur, the passwords (or hashes of those passwords) from compromised company databases usually find their way into the hands of the global hacking community. This further boosts the ever-increasing power of dictionary attacks.
  • One of the most powerful password dictionaries ever released is named “RockYou”.
  • Feel free to download the RockYou password database from Pastebin (provided by William Thompson’s hacker alias, h8rt3rmin8r): https://pastebin.com/MnRaVEAL

Additional innovations in hacking technology have also begun to gain widespread use, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence systems which can actually predict (with an uncanny level of accuracy) the types of passwords humans are likely to construct. Precautions can be taken against even the most sophisticated password cracking techniques:

  • Never use passwords generated by your own brain (use something like passwordsgenerator.net)
  • Never use passwords shorter than 18 characters
  • In general, if it can be memorized it can be cracked
  • Never use the same password on more than a single online account
  • Check the strength of your password with this online tool: http://password-checker.online-domain-tools.com/

The most common rebuttals that people have against using a new randomly generated password for every account is “how am I going to keep track of all these passwords” and “it’s so annoying to have to type in such a long line of gibberish”. Well, there’s an app for that. Several of them actually. Here are some of our recommendations:

Dashlane (Paid): A password manager that syncs across all your devices. It will automatically fill in your login details on saved websites. While this feature is similar to what Google Chrome offers, if your device gets hacked, stealing your browser cookies wouldn’t reveal your passwords. Additionally, if a website that you use gets hacked, Dashlane will alert you immediately and recommend changing your password.

Keepass2Android (Free): A client-side password manager app that will store all of your passwords. This service does not sync across devices, but it does make it easy to store and access passwords wherever you are.

Both of these services come with a random password generator. So you don’t have to type in a long string of random characters and hope there are no errors.

Get Started with Waves

Introduction

Waves Platform is a global, decentralized blockchain platform that was founded by Sasha Ivanov in 2016. Their website states that their mission is…

…to reinvent the DNA of entrepreneurship around the world by providing a shared infrastructure, offering easy-to-use, highly functional tools to make blockchain available to every person or organisation that can benefit from it.

Waves Platform

Since their launch, they have held true to this mission statement and have grown substantially as a result. Surviving the ICO rollercoaster of 2017, their team has proven to be consistently dedicated and innovative. They have also grown by making strategic partnerships with well-known companies such as Deloitte.

The Waves Client

The current version (1.0.28) of the Waves Client is a cryptocurrency wallet, decentralized exchange (DEX), and a tool for creating your own Waves-based tokens.

The Waves client can be accessed online, or it can be downloaded onto your device. The setup process is simple, quick and intuitive.

To get started, pick your preferred option:

Setting Up Your Account (Step by Step)

The following example uses the Online Client.

Once you have selected your preferred Waves Client option. The following steps will walk you through the account set up process.

Step 1 – Get Started

Step 2 – Create Your Account

Select your avatar. Remember, you cannot change it later.

Your account address is what can be shared in order to receive Waves. No one can access your account and spend your cryptocurrency with this public account address. Unlike some other cryptocurrencies, such as bitcoin, your account address with Waves does not change.

Step 3 – Choosing a Account Name & Password

Select your Account Name and Password.

For security purposes, avoid using your brain to generate a password. We recommend using something like passwordsgenerator.net to create a password that is at least 16 characters in length.

In this example, the following password was used: CBp=X9mc*’5~(&`E

Step 4 – Back Up Your Account

This is the most important step! Without your private seed, you will be unable to recover your account if you were to lose access. There are countless stories of people who lost money due to misplacing their private seed. Store your private seed in a secure location that you won’t forget.

Waves Platform will remind you to be aware of frequent scams and phishing attacks. It is isn’t built by Waves Platform, don’t enter in your private seed.

Write these 15 private seed words down and store them somewhere safe.

You will be prompted to input your 15 private seed words in order to make sure that you recorded them accurately.

If you misplace your backup private seed, but still have access to your account. You can locate it by going to “Settings –> Security” and clicking to show your Backup Phrase.

Step 5 – Explore

Once you are inside your account, click around and explore the many features!

Press Release: 12/12/2018

“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.”

Albert Einstein

Paul Vigna, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, published an article yesterday (12/11/2018) that highlighted the recent layoffs that were spurred as a result of Bitcoin’s decrease in price and market volume this year. CEOs of cryptocurrency companies have had to lay off employees, reassess their business models, and adjust their approach to the market.

We fully recognize the current struggles of the blockchain industry and have experienced our fair share of the challenges that have resulted from the recent decline. In response to the changes, we are formally taking a pivot from our original focus on blockchain-centric consulting services and have broadened our scope to encompass the trends of emerging technology as a whole with the skillsets we already have on hand.

Throughout our time in business, we have experienced several major transitions and our company is not unfamiliar with the tides of change. We are excited to enter a wider market with the highly unique skillsets and competencies that our team has grown fluent in. Our website has undergone several major changes, and as of yesterday (12/11/2018), those changes have gone live!

Please check out the latest changes and let us know your thoughts. Also, if you are a business owner or entrepreneur and have had to undergo fundamental changes as a result of the declining cryptocurrency markets, we would love to connect with you.
